| 'This one's from your momma!': Angry father shoots daughter's laptop with .45 pistol after she complains about chores on Facebook An angry father has taught his disgruntled teenage daughter a very public lesson in respecting ones elders by shooting her laptop on camera and then publishing the video on her Facebook page. Tommy Jordan, of Albemarle, North Carolina, made the video after his 15-year-old daughter Hannah had apparently written a Facebook post complaining about all of the chores she has to do at home. She was also moaning about how difficult her parents made her life. But when IT worker... |

| One of the top complaints about wealth distributions holds that the vast majority of the people of the country are excluded from the vast majority of its wealth. Considering the "plight" of all of those 20-somethings at the various occupiers, one could be deluded into believing the truth of the 99% mantra. But what if that wasn't true? Considering there are many branches of the group, let's take a look at its main one, occupying near Wall Street, in New York. Seeing how the occupiers are using other people's food and bathrooms and some living in tents (with others still... |

| Being a super hero is sometimes a thankless job. Just ask Spiderman and a handful of others who have both fought for and been chased by the law. As it turns out, even being just a regular hero isn't always all that it's cracked up to be. If you require proof, sit down for a chat with Roger Kline, a 51-year-old former Best Buy employee who was shown the door after he tackled a would-be laptop thief making a mad dash with stolen merchandise. According to a report in the Billings Gazette, Kline was a well-regarded employee and one of... |

| Dear FReepers, Firstly, I offer my sincere apologies in advance due to 1) a vanity and 2) a non-political vanity, at that. A good friend of mine just texted me because earlier this morning 1) she spilled coffee into the spacebar on her laptop keyboard and 2) immediately thereafter the laptop made a loud "pop" sound and promptly shut off. Unfortunately, rather than turn the laptop upside down to dry out, i.e., to prevent further liquid penetration into the circuit boards, she instead took the whole thing apart and is currently in the process of letting it dry out (piece... |

| Using a laptop computer as the name suggests may not be good for male reproductive health, according to a study. And there is little that can be done about it, aside from using the laptop on a desk, said Yelim Sheynkin, a urologist at the State University of New York at Stony Brook who led the study published in Fertility and Sterility. In the study, thermometers were used to measure the temperature of the scrotums of 29 young men balancing a laptop on their knees. Even with a lap pad under the computer, the men's scrotums overheated quickly. |

In 2007, Brampton, Ontario, cleric Ayad Mejid, targeted by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service as a suspected supporter of terrorism, sent his laptop to the spy service to prove his innocence, The Globe and Mail reported. Intelligence officials searching the computer without a warrant then forwarded the laptop to Toronto Police detectives who arrested Mejid, alleging they found child pornography images, the newspaper said Wednesday. | The American Civil Liberties Union and other groups have filed a lawsuit challenging the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) practice of searching laptops and other electronic devices at U.S. borders. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday by the ACLU, the New York Civil Liberties Union and the National Association of Criminal Defense Layers (NACDL), challenges a 2008 CBP policy that allows border agents to search electronic devices of any traveler, without suspicion of wrongdoing. In some cases, border agents have copied the contents of the devices or confiscated them. The lawsuit asks the court for an order prohibiting searches of electronic... |

For the past week or so, I have been testing a sleek, light, silver-and-black tablet computer called an iPad. After spending hours and hours with it, I believe this beautiful new touch-screen device from Apple has the potential to change portable computing profoundly, and to challenge the primacy of the laptop. It could even help, eventually, to propel the finger-driven, multitouch user interface ahead of the mouse-driven interface that has prevailed for decades. But first, it will have to prove that it really can replace the laptop or netbook for enough common tasks, enough of the time, to make it...

The query, from Jerry Novick, drew a small smile from the technology chief, Virginia DeMedio. "We did have a theft," she said. "And we have a way we can track them. . . . "There were six that were taken. All but one came back." |

| The vice chairman of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission could scarcely contain his scorn. Before the commission was yet another appeal from a Philadelphia-area family, again seeking a break on unpaid electric and gas bills that by last year were closing in on $30,000. This family lived in a $986,000 house on the Main Line. The breadwinner, until recently, had earned well more than $100,000 per year. Yet he and his wife were in hock to creditors, ranging from Uncle Sam to their former synagogue - and had regularly been stiffing Peco Energy for five years, breaking payment plan after... |
